The Bevington Organ

The organ is a two manual Bevington and Sons pipe organ. It was built in 1913 and belonged formerly to Downing College, Cambridge, where it was restored by Hill, Norman and Beard in 1953.

It was purchased for
St Christopher’s in 1966 for the sum of £450 and was rebuilt in the gallery at the west end of the Church by Messrs. Hill and Son and Norman and Beard and Company.

12’6” high x 9’ wide x 8’ deep.

The organ was declared open on the evening of October 28th 1966, by Miss Isobel Baillie C.B.E., one of the world’s leading Soprano singers.

Then followed a concert, with solo performances from Miss Baillie, George Blackmore, organist, and Basil Cuthbert, accompanist.
