The design shows the risen Christ, with hands outstretched in welcome, surrounded by the ‘Vesica Pisces’ – the Christian symbol of the fish.

The empty cross is suggested in the background, with the ‘green hill’ on which the cross stood, according to the famous hymn, incorporated into the design of the fish.

The original East window was of clear glass panes in a wooden frame, which formed a central cross. This gave a focal point at the East end of the church.

When it was decided in 1994 to commission a stained glass window to replace this, it was important that a cross remained as a focal point within the design.

The new window was installed in May 1996 at a cost of £8200, which was donated by a parishioner.

The window was designed and made by Peter F P Archer, a partner of Chapel Studio, which he co-founded in 1973.

He has worked as a designer and a painter of stained glass for ecclesiastical, public, private and commercial buildings in the UK and overseas.

Peter also collaborates with designers, as has the ability to work in a wide variety of styles and is able to interpret an original artist's design with sympathy and flair.

He is a leading glass painter for conservation and restoration projects, especially those associated with medieval and historic stained glass.
