St Christopher's Church
|
The East Window |
The design shows the risen Christ, with hands outstretched in welcome, surrounded by the ‘Vesica Pisces’ – the Christian symbol of the fish. The empty cross is suggested in the background, with the ‘green hill’ on which the cross stood, according to the famous hymn, incorporated into the design of the fish. The original East window was of clear glass panes in a
wooden frame, which formed a central cross. This gave a focal point
at the East end of the church. The new window was installed in May 1996 at a cost of £8200, which was donated by a parishioner.

The window was designed
and made by Peter F P Archer, a partner of Chapel Studio, which he co-founded
in 1973. Peter also collaborates with designers, as has the ability
to work in a wide variety of styles and is able to interpret an original
artist's design with sympathy and flair. |
